PbF2
Introduction:
Lead Fluoride - PbF₂ is a highly effective gamma-ray absorber as a result of its high density, fast decay time, and a high radiation hardness. Being a Cherenkov radiator, it dose not produce as much
light as a scintillating crystal, but its light output is sufficient high to give an energy resolution equal to or better than lead glass. It shows rather good radiation hardness and the radiation damage
can be cured by optical bleaching. The relatively inexpensive cost makes it a very promising material for electromagnetic calorimeter. These scintillator crystals are useful in diverse applications such
as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and specialty applications in high energy, nuclear, space and medical physics. Customized PbF2 crystals can be supplied upon your request.
